Hello all! Sorry it took me a little bit to get Friday's wrap-up posted. I've been out of commission since our arrival Friday night. I hope no one else got hit with this cold!
So, Friday started off early again. Our breakfast was at 6:30, and then it was back to our rooms to pack and clean up. Can you believe our last day arrived so fast?!? Everyone did a nice job making sure their rooms were tidy...although, it would have been tough to lose anything in those rooms.
We met Darnell and Dennis on a rainy morning. Because of the weather, I had to alter our plans on the fly. What normally is a leisurely stroll through Central Park, turned out to be a speed walk to through the Shakespeare Garden and up to the castle. I was a little bummed I didn’t get my annual Alice in Wonderland statue picture with all the kids.
After rushing back to the bus, we headed to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where again we were blocked. This time, not by rain, but by security and the media. Apparently someone famous passed away, and we entered the church in the midst of his/her funeral. Our apologies for any disturbance. At least we got to see the lobby, and the architecture.
We didn’t run into any problems at Grand Central Station. Dennis showed the kids the effects of cigarette smoke, as it had tarnished the now restored ceiling. A look around NY’s busiest train station, then a little bit of time to grab a snack. Many tried out Junior’s famous cheesecake.
We then took a ride up 5th Avenue to point out the shopping sites, then over to Rockefeller Center, where we got to see the famous ice skating rink. After a brief tour through the buildings, it was time to shop! I limited the students to several blocks along 5th Ave. They were given their lunch money and about 2 ½ hours until meeting up again at FAO Schwartz.
Two-thirty rolled around, and it was clear some did more damage than others. Most hit H&M, while others stuck with the ever-popular A&F. The toy store seemed to be another favorite of the kids…more for the playing with the toys than the purchasing.
We boarded the bus for our final ride, and left for Newark Airport. We waved goodbye to the city as we headed back over the bridge. At the airport, we gave Darnell a huge thank-you, and his very own T-Birds t-shirt, so he’ll remember us in style. The NCT representative, Amy, met our bus with some disappointing news; our flight was delayed. The kids took it in stride, enjoying their time by eating, playing cards, and catching a nap. We finally boarded the plane and headed home.
On behalf of all the adults, thank you everyone for a great trip! I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did. The memories and friendships you take from this trip will be ones that stay with you for a long time. It was a blast!

I miss DC. I wish that it would never end. Thanks miss Klabe for a great Trip. It was one of the best trips of my whole life Tue 8-Apr-2008 00:13
